"A Missionary & Deliverance Ministry & A Lighthouse of Prayer"

As I continue in the Book of Romans in today's Study in the Word,  let us turn our Bibles to Romans 5:17 ? 6:3:

Grace vs Conformation

"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)  Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life.  For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.  Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.?"  Romans 5:17-21 KJV

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?   Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?"   Romans 6:1-3 KJV

In the previous Chapters, the Apostle Paul is discussing faith vs. deeds or works.  He talks about how Abraham was justified by his faith, knowing that he was old, but trusted God to manifest the promise of Isaac in Sarah?s womb.  Abraham had ?hope? that made him not ashamed.  Yet, he was saved by faith, not by his works.

And the Apostle Paul speaks on sin, the law, integrity and how the grace of God covers all sin.

Now he is explaining, beginning in verse 17, how and why it works this way.

I am glad this is our first study together in the Word, so that we may get this ?Grace? issue settled as we continue to walk through the Word of God.

In verse 17 the Apostle explains that because of Adam?s offense (referring to the Garden incident in Genesis Chapter 3) Jesus, who was prophesied (Genesis 3:15) would come and redeem mankind from this curse brought upon mankind because of Adam?s disobedience.  This disobedience, Romans 5:19, tells us caused mankind from that point in Genesis Chapter 3, to be born into sin.

However, it was the obedience of Jesus to fulfill the promise/prophecy, is the propitiation (1 John 2:2) for our sins.  But because of sin, the law became priority and therefore, rituals were instituted/implemented (by God) so that mankind could make temporary restitution for sin, until Jesus fulfilled the prophesy.

Romans 5:20 continues and says, "But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound?"

And the Word of God tells us in John 3:16:

"16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."  John 3:16-18 KJV

The Word of God confirms in the book of Ephesians, "by grace, through faith, we are saved."

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.  Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ."   Eph 2:8-13 KJV

Some have read that and say that grace covers all sin; however, we can't stop there.  We must continue with the Apostle's complete thought; which continues in Chapter Romans Chapter 6.

In Chapters 1 and 2, Apostle Paul discusses the wrath of God, sins and abominations (also referred to as iniquities) and judgment.   Some are outlined to demonstrate the severity of the sin nature itself.  And we know that grace covers all sin.

Now, we see that it is not our works that saves us.  However, our salvation is a gift from God that we receive because of our faith (as Abraham displayed).

I've asked the question of my listeners before, can you find the scripture, "once saved, always saved?" in the Bible.   If so, please submit it to me here in the comments, because I have not been able to find that one.

As I've discussed in many of my books, especially "Hindrances to Prayer", there is sin and then there is the lifestyle of sin where one is overtaken in the sin.  It is no longer something that one is fighting against, it is invited and no longer a stranger to the individual.  That is iniquity.

"21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

While you fight or strive against the sin, grace will cover you.  However,  as the Apostle Paul continues in Romans Chapter 6:

"1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid."

For, we are to conform, as the Word tells us here.

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God?" Eph 6:13-17 KJV

"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."  Romans 8:13 KJV

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."    Romans 8:29-30 KJV

If grace covers all sin, then why are we "predestined" to be conformed to the image of Jesus? We are to strive, to be like Jesus, as we continually mortify (by our own choice) the deeds of the body so that we can continue to live eternally with the Father (the Word of God tells).
